From JEE Score to Engineering Seat
Counselling — not the exam alone — decides which of the 23,60,000+ B.Tech seats across 6,000+ engineering colleges you actually get.
JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) conducts common counselling for 23 IITs, 31 NITs, 26 IIITs and 40+ GFTIs — one profile, one choice list, six rounds plus CSAB special rounds. In parallel, 28 state authorities (KCET, MHT-CET, WBJEE, TS-EAMCET, KEAM, COMEDK & more) run their own counselling for 5,00,000+ state engineering seats. You must register separately for each — and one skipped deadline can cost a full year.

Register on josaa.nic.in for IIT/NIT/IIIT/GFTI and separately on your state portal (KCET, MHT-CET, WBJEE, etc.) for state quota. Pay registration + seat acceptance fees.

Choice Filling & Locking
Order choices by genuine preference — branch first, then institute. Add safe options at the bottom and lock the list before the deadline. Unlocked lists auto-lock at closing time.
Seat Allotment
Download provisional allotment letter, pay seat acceptance fee (₹35,000 / ₹15,000) and complete online document verification within the window.

The final number of B.Tech seats may change based on AICTE approvals, new colleges, seat additions or withdrawals and JoSAA/CSAB/state counselling updates. IITs, NITs & IIITs Admission Route (JEE 2026)
IITs, NITs & IIITs are among the most preferred B.Tech options for JEE candidates. Seats are filled through JoSAA counselling followed by CSAB special rounds for vacant NIT/IIIT/GFTI seats.

Competition is highest at older IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Kanpur, Kharagpur) and older NITs (Trichy, Warangal, Surathkal, Rourkela, Calicut). Home State quota gives an advantage at NITs.
JoSAA 2026 Category-wise Reservation
JoSAA follows central reservation rules for IIT / NIT / IIIT / GFTI seats. Candidates applying under reserved categories must have valid certificates in central format for the current financial year.
